Re: Help for a parent of a small child with eczema

Put her on a gluten free diet. Some of the symptoms of gluten intolerance are quite subtle. Skin issues like eczema is one symptom. [My brother, for instance, has a really bad case of geographic tongue. Most of the taste buds on his tongue have disappeared over a 10 year period he's been trying to find the cause. He's been gluten free for a few months now and the burning on his tongue is easing, the white patches are receding.]

Make sure she's on a vitamin D supplement (1,000iu daily) and gets sun in the summer for 20 minutes during peak hours (10am-2pm) without sunscreen. Only use natural sunscreens (zinc and titanium oxide. Double rise her clothes when you do laundry, add vinegar in the 1st wash. Eliminate all chemicals and synthetic additives from her bath and clothes. You can bathe her in Dr. Bonner's soap or pick up some gentle goats milk soap online. There are several moms who make their own goats milk soap and a gentle one for babies because of children with eczema. Use natural oils on her skin, organic extra virgin coconut oil is fabulous on the skin. Apply it while her skin is still warm and damp from bath. It will help keep her skin hydrated.
