Genova has you collect into a synthetic medium that supports microbe growth—assumes the microbes in your stool are alive and can be cultured on medium to increase their numbers and isolate them from each other. Then they use staining and microscopy.
IMO Genova’s false assumptions result in lots of false negatives, i.e. you have it but the lab can’t find it.
