Depends on what you mean by a "regular liver cleanse".  If you mean the so-called "liver flushes" with olive oil, citrus juice and magnesium sulfate then this does not cleanse the liver.  That is a myth.  Even milk thistle is considered by many to a liver cleanser, but that is only true if used as a bitter.  if taken in a capsule form it does not cleanse the liver either.

Also, not sure if it does me any good as I don't have liver issues, but I try to drink milk thistle tea regularly. Supposedly milk thistle helps protect the liver, as well as stimulate regeneration in the liver.

Yes, those are the main properties, but it is also a good antioxidant and some anti-inflammatory properties.
