As for plasmodium mito, I am not clear on this. I think because there is so much mystery on the function of this organelle in plasmodium spp, that there could be a type of cross-species horizontal transfer that happens which allow otherwise harmless organisms acquire an ability to produce components which are able to enter the lipid layers of certain cells.
This is just "thinking out loud". I am trying to figure out why (my)yeast-like parasites have mtDNA from plasmodium.
I have actually observed the "sporozoites" (unknown elements) enter into prospective cells. Once in the cells, there is proliferation. I have not witnessed the burst as one would expect to see.
I do witness free sporozoites in samples. It is difficult to satisfy any kind of scientific facts with these things without having consistent access to pure specimen. Shroom
