Re: RAI treatment for hyperthyroid disease

Hi, I had rai treatment back in february for hyperthyroid. I felt fine for about for months until I turned seriously hypothyroid. When your blood test shows your levels are normal which for me, was about 3 mos after rai, make sure you get your blood tested every 2 weeks so your doctor can get you on the meds as soon as your level goes below a certain number, or if you start to get any of the following symptoms; Weight gain, swollen joints, pain in the legs when walking, writers cramp, slurred speech, grogginess, sleep apnea, water retention, depression, and fatigue. I had all of the above because my doctor kept me on the blood test schedule every 8 weeks even when my thyroid levels were at the normal level. I can't stress enough, get your blood tested more frequently at this point so you can start on your meds before your symptoms get as serious as mine were. They were actually concerned about me going into heart failure because of the inability to walk 1/4 mi.without severe leg pain, when 2 mos before, I was walking 3 mi. per day.
