Re: Olive branches are great - but they must work both ways
Agreed with the annoyance and difficulty etc these disputes create. However I do not agree that they should not occur nor should they be squashed.
These disputes are important. More important is how they are handled. I do not agree with the solutions: both those prescribed by the WM and or those proposed above. Both are superficial and ignorant.
How many of us can laugh at this irony: We are interested in the best medical outcomes. We spend a large amount of tme and energy in research and intelligence seeking that outcome. But we are unable to move above kindergarten level dispute resolution amongst ourselves. Yes I am laughing: so much for wanting alternatives? Calls to cultural niceties etc are ultimately imposed value judgments and rarely succeed in getting any further. There are bigger issues here than that attitude implies.
One solution is to view this as a "back to basics" situation. All of us honestly examining ourselves first. A well done self-examination and the consequent differences properly understood helps grow a basis to start discussing these disputes. That calls for a level of integrity and honesty we can aspire to if we wish. Yes difficult and yes rewarding to those who do the work. Sound familiar?
Unfortunately a call to manners gets just that. Sorry Chris, manners will not and do not solve issues of this dimension.
