Smell from extraction site 2tooth pulled last week-LOSS!

I had a very old failed root canal # 2 tooth pulled 5 days ago and I am having a very foul smell from my mouth today. I had been being very careful not to dislodge the blood clot and the dentist saw it 3 days after and said it was looking good. I had tooth # 3 extracted a few years ago and don't remember it smelling or being as sore and uncomfortable as this extraction has been. I've been taking PLO cream and 1/4 tablets of Vicodin today for pain. If I take full or 1/2 tablets of the Vicodin it makes me feel so loopy and sometimes upsets my stomach even though I always take it with food. The dentist did indicate that it would be sore for a while but was not specific. His assistant I spoke with today said to rinse with warm salt water and that the smell is normal. I began the warm salt water but the smell leads me to think something is not right. I don't want to get an infection. I am just finishing 7th day of amoxicillin and might considering taking it for a few more days- but gee I hate Antibiotics too.

Does anyone know how long these normally take to heal and if smell is normal. Since it is the very back tooth I can't see it well but hubby said it looks gray.

I had been fighting a cold the day of the extraction and my husband had about 4 days with a really bad cold. Great timing! I loaded up on Schulze products: Super Tonic and Echinacea+ and his new Oral Therapy rinse and I use a few drops of Tooth and Gum tincture on my toothbrush. Another company I use for supplements, Wellness Resources, suggested Calcium AEP http://www.wellnessresources.com/products/calcium_aep.php
and they also suggested their Skin Rejuvenator but I opted for their Super CoQ10 (good for heart and gums) since I already had MSM Sulfur and Grape Seed Extract two ingredients in the Skin Rejuvenator. I may also take some BioAstin (a great antioxidant) and Omega 7 Seabuckthorn (that I have heard is good for gums).

Does anyone know other supplements or herbs for healing this quickly?

I am so emotionally sad and depressed since I feel like I have lost so much chewing surface (# 1, # 2 and # 3 are now all gone) and feel like I will have big eating adjustments ahead of me. I have no idea what options I might have - don't think implants are healthy and I could not afford them anyway.
