My son (age 18) had a gall baldder/pancreatitis attack. Dr recommended and did a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Afterwards we found out he had gilberts syndrome and autoimmune anemia likely contributing to a higher load of billirubin in his bile (possible cause of gall stones). I will always question myself if this was the right decision. Had I known more then I would have tried the alternative health route first.
Don't beat yourself up over the decision. In his case there was not a lot you could really do. "liver flushing" does not really work, and bilirubin stones are not likely going to respond to the normal methods of dealing with cholesterol stones.
