Re: Angioedema while fasting
Unfortunately, the swelling spread to inside my throat and I had to break the fast so I could take some Benedryl. The swelling had been spreading to my upper lip and farther along my jaw and neck also, although the bottom lip had been going down.
I first broke the fast with an orange so the pills wouldn't be a shock, then I took 2. I usually have to take 4 for it to do anything but I thought I might need less since I fasted. A few minutes later, I realized there would be leftovers from dinner, so I couldn't help but join my family and have some cooked broccoli, half of a corn cob, and a small piece of grilled chicken. I wouldn't have eaten those foods if I hadn't fasted for such a short time. There were no ill effects.
After dinner, since there was no change in the swelling, I took 2 more Benedryl. About half an hour later, still without change (although the swelling in my throat was at least halted), my husband reminded me that he had some other pills that he had gotten for a bee sting that I could take with the Benedryl. I've done this multiple times, and can never tell which one worked, or if it was the combination. I took one of those, and since then have noticed that the redness on my chin and neck is going away. My upper lip is still pretty swollen, and my throat hasn't gone down, but it hasn't grown either.
I always wait before going to the ER because it happens so often it's not worth the trouble unless I'm truly afraid of suffocating, and the swelling always progresses slowly.
I've never had swelling last as long as it did this time (probably because I didn't take anything at first), and I've never had it spread across such a large area. The strange thing is, I've had no other symptoms on this fast except for occasional mild stomach discomfort and a coated tongue.
It seems that I am ultra-sensitive to toxins, and due to this, I don't know when or if I will be able to
Water Fast again. I'm pretty disappointed, because I was aiming for at least 10 days and was looking forward to all of the benefits.
Now I'm considering starting a juice fast/feast, but I might just try to detox while eating good foods, since juice fasting takes a lot more willpower than water fasting. I want to get healthy as quickly as possible so I can try to get pregnant. My last 2 pregnancies were miscarriages.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Thank you again, chrisb1.
