starting water fast

Hi everyone,
first of all, thank you to curezone for having this support zone and to everybody for participating and helping!

I am 44, and just found out I likely have prediabetes last week. I have 4 kids, ages 1 month to 6 years, and am happily married. It's not a conclusive test, so I have to go back at some point to get it verified but my blood Sugar level was in that range for prediabetes, 116 specifically. I weighed somewhere in the 260s when I started this - not sure exactly - probably 264 or so. I am 5 10.5 so I should weight 175 or so, which is what I weighed in High School. I am not exercising now and haven't really in years, though I was somewhat of an athlete when I was younger.

I also have a fatty liver, which I've known about for years.

A few days before getting my results, I had started a combined healthy Atkins/water fast attempt. I was doing mostly the healthy Atkins, which means I was eating proteins like turkey wings, fish, and veggies like lettuce, broccoli and fats like olive oil. That's why I call it 'healthy Aktins' - it was very low carb but not the 'go crazy on the fat and unhealthy protein parts'... I was sort of planning between switching off between that and a water fast.

I did try a waterfast a year ago and did it for 4 days - at that point I started getting bad muscle cramps and panicked and stopped it. Also my right side, where my liver is, was hurting... I was proud of myself for making it 4 days. I am absolutely amazed at people who made it 40 days.

I know my blood Sugar was normal a year ago, so this prediabetes thing (if verified) is new.

Anyways, I'm very pissed off at myself and read up on prediabetes- it says if you lose 10% of your body weight that is a very good thing for curing it / reducing it. That's 26 or 27 pounds for me.

After getting the result a few days ago, I switched to Water Fast and decided to haul it out as long as I could on that. I'm just angry at myself for putting my family in this position and my kids of losing me early. I'm very upset with myself - really downright furious. I know maybe that's not the best place to start - but I had started the whole thing before the test, from a very positive place.

I weighted myself a few minutes ago and I now weigh 256.6, which is probably a loss of about 8 pounds or so, though I did not weigh myself at the start - but that's not just from the start of the water fast, that is from the start of the whole thing which was about a week ago.

I am now almost done with Day 2 of the Water Fast (I started 3pm and it's 3pm in a half-hour). As I said I switched entirely from the Atkins to the water fast. I'm doing OK. I had a question on liquid vitamins. I am nervous about not getting the vitamins and minerals I need. The last time I did a Water Fast I noticed I had trouble with the regular vitamins pills a few days into the fast, so I went and bought two bottles (60 days worth) of liquid vitamins. I found a brand that has the lowest carbs and calories I could find that was reasonable- 1 carb and 5 calories - I figured that's OK to get the vitamins. Also I bought a water called Smartwater that has electrolytes in it. Any comments on these strategies welcome. I actually just took the first liquid vitamin capful and found it pretty digusting but I don't feel hungrier or anything and next time I will mix it with water.

Besides the question, if there is any encouragement people could give, I'd greatly appreciate it. I got laid off from my job 2 months ago, but I do have a PhD to finish which I really do need to work on and a startup company I am trying to get going. I am a teacher.

Thanks so much for your help!
