Can people survive a CAT scan?

After getting hit by a car, they highly recommended I have a CAT scan, just of my neck to make sure it wasn't broken, so I allowed it. Are CAT scans dangerous for the "average American" but possibly OK for people like us that eat & live this way? I needed to have this. If my neck was broken, I could have become paralyzed. I felt that this CAT scan was necessary.
