Re: Interesting article that releates to this forum
Most vegetarians eat unbalanced diets just like most meat eaters. Of course those with a higher quality diet will have fewer health issues - but that has nothing to do with being vegetarian or not.
Personally I was eating too much red meat (couldn't stand seafood, chicken or turkey) and developed hypertension, high cholesterol, poor liver function and eventually had a small stroke.
Instead of taking 5 different medicines the doctor said I'd need to be on for the rest of my life, I cut out meat completely. That was in addition to stopping alcohol, smoking, exercising more, and having a higher quality diet in general.
But I stopped the meds after the first week, and my health completely turned around. My doctor said what happened was almost miraculous after the next checkup. Of course his enthusiasm quickly faded when I told him I ditched the meds and went natural.
I've been vegetarian for the last 5 years and in my mid 50's I've never been healthier.
