I use erythritol, in moderation, as of this spring. I have carefully kept track of weeks I use it and weeks I don't, and it does not cause me any symptoms.
If someone's personal gut bug problem is some kind of bug that CAN eat erythritol, that person may have problems using that as a sweetener, but I have not heard of anyone yet having a problem with it in that sense.
I do have a more minor issue with it though: it feels like it "sits there" and doesn't digest very well, for maybe a half hour sometimes after I eat it, not in any severe manner, but just a little. For that reason, and because I'm very cautious with any sweeteners, I limit it to a spoonfull every few days.
I read somewhere that xylitol, despite it's reputation for safety for candida, might in fact be a problem for some folks, so as I'm paranoid about sweeteners I do not use xylitol. But erythritol is ok with me thus far.
