Re: Thanks Telman. Another question pls.
The flax seeds produce a vegetable oil known as linseed oil or flaxseed oil. Cold pressed linseed oil is one of the most concentrated plant sources of the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid. The health benefits of ground flax seed are also due to the lignans and dietary fibre it contains, in addition to omega-3 fatty acids. Most herbal type supplement have a synergy with other and it would appear that flax seed oil and whole-beet compliment each other.
I can not see a reason why olive oil cannot be used except that it lacks some of the properties of flaxseed oil and has a significantly different taste.
In the ayurvedic system of medicine, the seeds of linseed have been used in treatment of biliousness.
Whole-beet and flax seed oil is a modern equivalent of an old gallbladder medicine comprising dandelion root and eggs.
Some background info:
One tablespoon of ground flax seeds and three tablespoons of water makes an excellent replacement for one egg in baking by binding the other ingredients together. Excellent for vegetarians.
For those worried about heavy metals in fish oils and the fact that they come from an animal flaxseed oil is a good alternative.
Ground flax seeds can also be mixed in with oatmeal, yogurt, water (similar to Metamucil), or any other food item where a nutty flavour is desired.
