My 24 year old son was caught with exactly 4 ounces which is exactly enough to be considered a felony in Texas. After spending money on a lawyer it was reduced to a misdemeanor which was 6 months in jail that they offered 12 months probation instead. Probation is impossible as on any drug charge they suspend your license for 6 months so unless you have someone to drive you to all the meetings (4 a week including AA and community service you can't do it. He is turning himself in to just do the time and get it over with.
They have totally disrupted his life and are attempting to draw him into the system and keep him there if they can. I'm sure there are many other horror stories worse for such a non-crime. Compare that to what the white shoe boys get away with on Wall Street!
