Some of those "other chemicals" are pretty nasty - such as polysorbate 80.  Nasty as in known carcinogens, mutagens and neurotoxins.

Formaldehyde was just added to the list of known carcinogens (after years of industry delay and after Koch left the NIH cancer board).

When MSG was tested for safety the placebo chosen was Aspartame.
