IC - I don't mean to point fingers. You happened to post that article and I responded. It is a complicated issue. Ultimately...... Budgets are budgets. Whether Federal or State. And they should (need to) be balanced. Unfortunately it doesn't always happen. Which is why they and the Feds are in debt up to their ears. And California is a quagmire. And there is plenty of blame to go around. And considering it is a "liberal" state, well they need to take the Lion Share of the blame. But still.

It boils down to priorities. California probably doesn't need more maximum security prisons. They need to balance their budget first and foremost. Meaning ten percent cuts across the board on every budget item. Unfortunately every one of those programs will have people defending it to the death, so you end up back at square one. Which in their case, is not a good place to be. They are at the forefront of so many important issues, yet are going bankrupt. They need to get serious and balance their checkbook.
