Do what they'd do at the ER initially...

A concussion is simply a 'head/brain bruise'...no different than any other kind of a bruise. Some swelling, some pain, and a few symptoms from the swelling...nuttin' to write home about. Because hospitals HAVE to cover their ash, they ALWAYS do invasive, harmful tests.


My dad was a HS coach, I've watched this scenario many times:

--Check your eyes, are the pupils equally dilated as they should be? equally responsive to light? Or unequal and staying unequal?

--Dizziness, nausea, inability to think logically?

--lack of coordination? (like being unable to catch a ball)

--Severe/sharp pain that obviously isn't related to the pain of being smacked with a softball?

None of these? In the old days if you went to the ER, they would have given you an ice pack, some Tylenol, and sent you home (advising if any of the 'above symptoms' started, to come back in).

Cayenne is great, ice is great, a castor oil pack overnight would be very soothing (and likely prevent bruising or swelling).

You sound QUITE able to think logically (just like you always do). So apply that logical choice and make the best decision for your body :)

'Sorry you got whacked. When I used to play, I usually played catcher...I've been whacked LOTS of times (those balls that hit you only a few inches after coming off the bat are MEAN!).
