Re: Question about test for thyroid sufficiency

I would like to know if there is a simple serum test that can be done. My 31 year old husband has a large thyroid nodule/tumor growing off his his thyroid and it was discovered 3 years ago. It is not producing hormones, and a biopsy showed no cancer (well, at first they said that, and then they called back to say the sample wasn't sufficient to test conclusively and that he should get another one. We didn't). I have suspected that he is Iodine deficient but I am a bit fearful to get him on an Iodine protocol in case there is a possibility that his nodule might get worse. In the past I have given him two drops of Lugol's along with the companion supps and salt pushes and still he felt dizzy/vertigo for at least a month after that one-time dose. I suspect he has a heavy metal load in addition to a heavy fluoride burden (he has some mild dental fluorosis and grew up with fluoridated water). We are using various methods to remove his heavy metals but I am on the fence about Iodine for him. He also has diabetes, diagnosed at age 23 with no family history and has always been very physically fit, good diet, etc. His diabetes has both characteristics of type 1 and type 2. We have an upcoming endocrinologist appt. and I would like to push the possibility that these issues may be caused by an iodine deficiency and I would like him tested just to get an idea of where his levels are so that I can begin giving him iodine with confidence. Most endos poo-poo the existence of iodine deficiency so I would like to be armed with knowledge so I can push my case and get him tested, if possible...
