Teaching Someone That Refuses to Listen
To my 66 year old Sister. She's in good general health, is a professional office worker, goes to a gym at least a few times a week, and says she "eats right" which could mean almost anything according to the food pyramid or whatever.
I was going to type out a long reply to her to *try* to tell her to work on preventing dis-ease instead of always waiting until something is broken before looking for a band-aid remedy to fix it. These are her emails to me, and my replies, which I reduced VERY much, but she ignored it anyway. I actually think it's a better idea to say nothing at all than to try to teach someone that refuses to listen. She's my last surviving family member, but she hates to be taught. A little brother couldn't know anything, after all, I stayed back my freshman year in HS. She has a negative attitude about diet, and I'm not going to try to change that.
I had a rash on the TOP of both feet in January. Suspected a new pair of slippers, so threw them out. Was putting hydrocortisone on it but it wouldn't go away. Using Sarna lotion for the itching. Couldn't get into see a dermatologist for THREE months (mine had died in November). Went to my primary care, who prescribed Lotrimin creme. No help.
Finally, during all that snow that we got, I called to see if they had a cancellation and I got in to see him. He gave me an RX for an ointment, which helped immediately. Also suggested a patch test on my back to find out what I was allergic to. Turns out I am allergic to dark dyes AND hydrocortisone, also sulfa drugs (I knew that). So I was re-aggravating myself.
Fun to get old.
Getting old isn't bad. Every body encounters changes in their body. This is no cause for alarm, it is cause for appropriate action.
My $.02 on your topical allergies :
You're deficient in some nutrients.
You ought to buy some raw local honey and take 1 tbs daily. It will strengthen your immune system, especially to local pollens, which can make a biog difference. Your HF store should have it, or farmer's market. Make sure it's raw.

I tried the honey thing when we first moved here. Didn't make a lick of difference.
It's too bad you don't look at raw honey, garlic, organic fruit and vegetables, etc., as everyday foods instead of something you go for when you're ill to use as a band-aid remedy.
