Two more points...
...Study the aqufer (groundwater) and where it flows on or under public (free) land. Many people will not recognize food plants and you can harvest as things come ready. You can also sell, give, the produce and/or teach gardening.
...Pay particular attention to how water is cleaned as it runs a short distance through or over rocks. The world is running out of clean water, some say.
And some say the finest air to breathe is beside a waterfall.
...Plant nut trees. A local nut farm was planted years ago on land just above the aquafer, beside a lake.
The organization that manages the farm tries to keep people from picking up even one nut and walking away without paying for it. ($100 fine.)
I think, instead, they should have been duplicating the farm all around this and nearby lakes.
But, hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it?
