Good article Chiron, I sometimes forget that there are complete novice gardeners out there, and they should be helped and encouraged.
I would suggest also, that instead of seedlings, grow plants from seed. This is rewarding and much more cost effective. Many seeds can be sown directly into the ground, eliminating the need for lots of pots. Pumpkin, Zucchini, squash, cucumbers, carrots, beans and peas, are all seeds that can be planted directly into the soil. There are many others.
Gardening is a skill that rewards your body, and your spirit :)
