Re: kidney pain

If garlic used to control it, it's probably bacterial. (Could be both Inter. Cystitis AND an infection.) If you had/have a bladder infection that travelled north and became a kidney infection, there is a great herb for that called Uva Ursi, aka Bearberry.

It's possible that the reason cranberries are okay and apples are not is b/c of the Sugar content of the apples, which feeds the candida thereby making things worse.

I'm surprised your ayurvedic doc had you taking acidic things. I've got silent kidney stones and one of the things that predictably causes pain there is highly acidic foods/drinks. If you do have kidney stones/crystals, in addition to the substances mentioned above there's also magnesium malate - especially good if you have calcium oxalate stones since both the mag. and the malic acid go to work on the calc. ox.

Lastly, you can buy pure malic acid powder. You can mix it into water, add a little sugar, add no sugar, or add a Sugar substitute... Also there's a great product called UT Formula 1. Quantum also makes Bladder Complex. I've used both of them.
