You would be better off treating this from the inside, particularly with silica. Silica is the main nutrient responsible for bone and cartilage strength and the mineralization of bone. It also helps which calcium absorption, helps to make sure the minerals go where they need to go and strengthens the supporting tendons and ligaments.
Silica is poorly absorbed though so the best way to get silica is by dissolving silica in water then drinking the water throughout the day so you absorb a little each time you take a drink. I use food grade diatomaceous earth for my silica. It is very inexpensive running around $0.40 an ounce, which will last literally for years. Here is a post on using it:

The second most important nutrient is vitamin C. Natural sources are best since the synthetic is very unstable. Good sources include papaya, kiwis, watercress, berries, acerola cherry, rosehips and amla.
There are several herbs that can be used internally to speed up the healing process. My favorites are boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum), gotu kola, plantain leaf and dipsacus root.
