Re: Let the religous be religious
You forgot reasons 3 and 4.
3) They listen to their God given hardwired guidance that we ALL have AKA our conscience; and
4) Also follow our related and also built-in capacity -empathy.
Assuming that God is our creator, you have to also assume that our hardwired conscience and empathy would be our most direct and purist guidance.
IOW would you choose religious texts written by man (no matter how inspired) over our built in God given guidance systems of conscience and empathy? That's where so many get into trouble.
Like anything else in the mind and body, empathy and conscience have to be nurtured, nourished and sacrificed for to be fully developed. And though it's not easy, it's the purist form of creator worship since those mechanisms are part and parcel of our creation.
This explains to me why some of the best people I've known weren't religious, and many religious people are (lets face it) horrible.
If your scriptures of choice re-inforce your conscience - go deep! If not, run far far away. And as a person of conscience and empathy for it's own sake - if there IS a God, how could you not be among his most cherished?
