Absolutely, it needs to stop. A previous government wanted to bring in a national identity card, with embedded information about the card holder. This never got up, because the people were concerned about the privacy issues, and abuses, that could occur if this became law. We are citizens of our country, and should not have to carry an identity card in our own country.

The US government is riding rough shot over the people, and it must stop.
