Molly has mentioned a few studies that conclude that the more often you see a dentist, the worse off you are. How's THAT for counterintuitive? But from what I've experienced personally I have no doubt. And also little doubt that your kids are better off for not going.

If they would OP they'd be FAAAR better off, but I know how hard it is to talk your family into. I've gotten my wife to do it when she's had a few different painful things going on in her mouth only because all else failed. And it worked - but will she make it a regular practice? Noooo.

And my teenage sons? They won't get near it even though they heard my neighbor raving about how his gum pockets improved so well after OP that he was told he didn't need gum surgery any more. And his periodontist was so impressed that he promised to do serious research on oil pulling.

Makes you wonder what it will take.. Sheesh.
