Re: Marriage and Choice

"After conception the combined egg and sperm for a zygote, which then develops into a foetus. The definition of foetus is a developing or unborn offspring. This term is used for unborn humans as well as the unborn offspring of many animals."

Reading words used in this way makes me feel like I'm in a Science class studying biology again.

Using certain words in a certain way is something that is done by those on both sides of the abortion issue.

Bottom line is, fetus = unborn baby / child.

Here's the dictionary definition:

(Note where the definition says "in particular an unborn human baby more than 8 weeks after conception")

fetus |ˈfētəs| ( Brit. (in nontechnical use) also foetus)
noun ( pl. -tuses )
an unborn offspring of a mammal, in particular an unborn human baby more than eight weeks after conception.
ORIGIN late Middle English : from Latin, ‘pregnancy, childbirth, offspring.’
USAGE The spelling foetus has no etymological basis but is recorded from the 16th century and until recently was the standard British spelling in both technical and nontechnical use. In technical usage, fetus is now the standard spelling throughout the English-speaking world.

Thesaurus
fetus
noun
an ultrasonic photo of the fetus embryo, unborn baby/child.

Peace and Blessings,
Mira
