Re: Calcium.
I'm definitely interested in your theory.
I'm doing fine without any topical treatment now. I went 8 days before I removed the skin, and don't want to aggravate the raw lip skin any more with any sort of chemical. I've tried so many herbal toothpastes, using just a speck of Auromere now, but my dental hygienist said I could try not using toothpaste if I wanted, as long as I brushed and flossed.
She also said I should get checked for actinic cheilitis. While I think that is not what we have, I find one of the treatments on wikipedia for actinic cheilitis to be interesting:
Topical 5-fluorouracil (5-FU, Efudex, Carac) has been shown to be an effective therapy for diffuse, but minor actinic cheilitis. 5-fluorouracil works by blocking DNA synthesis. Cells that are rapidly growing need more DNA, so they accumulate more 5-fluorouracil, resulting in their death. Complete clearance has been reported in about 50% of patients.
I like the idea of finding out the trigger for this, and seeing if it can be stopped (have we really ruled out localized cortisol as a cause, by the way??), but blocking DNA synthesis might be a secondary option. Just some thoughts -- we need more research.
Peace,
C.S.
