"calcium ions play an important role in the homeostasis of skin barrier. A change in the barrier will change the calcium ion gradient in skin and lead to barrier repair process. A severe change might lead to a high degree of calcium signaling, which may induce the activation of various processes, from increased synthesis of skin components or messengers to the inflammatory reactions."

if i picked the skin off my lips, according to that article it would increase calcium signaling. I've mentioned calcium here in the past.
Psoriasis is known as calcium protease. When the dead skin is examined it has high levels of calcium.
here some small info on calcium
"Calcium regulates a wide range of vital cell functions including enzyme activities, attachment, motility, morphology, metabolic processes, cell-cycle progression, signal-transduction, replication, gene expression and electrochemical responses. Prolonged elevation of intracellular calcium levels can lead to apoptosis."

my question is would disrupting the skin barrier of the lips cause an increase of calcium to the lip area? and would this increase in calcium cause EC?
Our lips grow rapid skin, there is an engine behind this, it isn't genetic... we weren't born with this. Some have aggravated the lips and caused EC. I believe if a person with normal lips, would lick their lips and constantly pick at the skin, they would develop EC(pretty much how i got EC). The aggravation is the initiating cause of EC. and i think calcium is the engine of EC. the engine of the growing skin, which is the problem. We can't grow all this skin in short time without a fuel.. i think it's calcium. there's an over-activity of calcium in the lips due to aggravation of the lips. Infact those white spots on the lips may be calcium deposits not fordyce spots. This isn't concrete but i'll certainly be doing this for my own satisfaction to cross it off the to-do list of cures for EC.
This forum has been quiet lately. I'm still up for discussing logical theories because it's productive.
I use this for management -
better than vegetable glycerine or any moisturizer i've ever tried. If anyone is having trouble managing EC just use that Blistex lip relief cream. I just reordered 10 because i ran out.
Peace.
