Untreated tap water will carry many organisms - bacteria, fungi, slime molds - and small bits of plant debries in a stream or shallow well, organisms in the pipes and occasionally parasites and enteric bacteria. Gells and crystals can form from the minerals in the water

Treated tap water can carry bacteria and fungi from the pipes and unless there is contamination from broken pipes or a source of untreated water it should not have parasites or harmful bacteria. Gells and crystals can form.

Filters can grow organisms and can contain harmful chemical contaminents.

Gells can form in distilled water.

Except for the chemical contaminents in distilled and all water these forms such as the images shown are benign.
