Drinking salty water

I have Lymphedema and I have read that, among certain other things, drinking 8 glasses of water with a pinch of Seasalt daily may help. My Physiotherapist has adviced me to stay off salty foods as they bind the fluid to the body/tissue. How can the 8 glasses of salty water make sense? Does the salt work differently when taken with water?
