Re: Diet for breaking a 10 day water fast
MeTxLady,
the best way to break a 10 day fast?
In short, unless the body has experienced the return of natural hunger, digestion will need to be nurtured back into activity.
The recommendation has always been thru juices and where fresh juices are ideal as they contain the live enzymes only found in living foods. These live juices also replenish the intestinal flora required for proper digestion as well.
Bottled, canned, tinned juices, are devoid of these alive substances required for health, and are a poor second best.
A favorite juice combo' in doing this has been a mixture of orange/apple.
A 10 day fast is relatively short so less care is needed in breaking this length of fast than a much longer one, so I would stick to juices in minimal amounts at first and gradually increase the quantity over a couple of days.
Fresh carrot juice is a favorite on the second day, but starting out with fruit juice for breakfast in the morning.
Third day, some fruit of a high water content is ideal, such as grapes or melon or any fruit in season.
Fourth day, fruit for breakfast with a small salad for lunch and the same for dinner. Do not eat after 6.00pm.
BUT......
Vitally important you eat only according to appetite and the dictates of your body. Less food is required post-fast than pre-fast.
Concentrated foods such as meat and dairy or nuts and so on after the first 5 or 6 days as these are harder to handle when digestion is re-nurturing back into full activity.
Proper food combining also helps ENORMOUSLY.
The above does not apply if natural hunger has returned and the appetite/hunger has to be controlled as there is a danger of overeating and where digestion is at its maximum capacity.
I would wait for at least another 15 days before commencing another fast to replenish your food reserves. A fast is only as safe as the quality of your food reserves allow.
