Re: Question about ending a fast and beginning a new one
Well that makes me feel better. Well basically, I'm just concerned about getting TOO dehydrated, even though you take in plenty of liquids with a fast, dehydrated sets in because we don't realize the amount of water in food.
I also don't want to screw over my metabolism too badly, and I fear going beyond 20 days I would do so, but ideally yes I would love to do 40 days.
My reasoning is two-fold, I do it for weight loss because it's just the easiest way for me. I have some kind of intolerance to most food which causes heavy water retention, and dieting since I was 7 has pretty much crashed my metabolism to the ground. So a typical "starvation diet" of 1200 calories per day simply does not work for me in the long term. My body adjusts and I can end up GAINING weight. I've plateaued on fasts before too, but it is usually very, very temporary.
I've kept 160 lbs of weight loss off permanently doing it this way, my biggest weight was around 448 lbs, I now hover around 290. My lowest weight was 237. I've been morbidly obese my entire life.
Secondly, I do it just to cleanse myself and heal. Aches and pains disappear, my skin improves, my eyesight improves, it is a true renewal, and just a general break that I need, so much so even if I did not lose weight I would do it occasionally. Many foods cause swelling and arthritic pain. This simply...disappears..during a fast. I don't have to resources for a medical explanation, I simply know what works, and this works. Do I know the drawbacks? Yes, there can be a vitamin deficiency, it's mostly (but not entirely) water weight loss, and there can be severe bonuce back if you come off too quickly.
So anyway, I know I'm posting in the wrong section as far as the weight loss element, but as I said, it's more complex than that (my reasoning). And, I'm just not wanting to push things too far by going to a 40-day if it is dangerous, but that is my ultimate goal.
