Re: Gluten Free: Millions Have Celiac Few Diagnosed

Thanks for the link! It really is amazing how many people are affected by this issue who go undiagnosed for so long. I was recently reading the book, "Healthier Without Wheat" by Dr. Wangen and it was saying how Celiac Disease affects over 1% of the US population, which approximates about 3 million people. Gluten intolerance (CD is one type of gluten intolerance among many) is estimated to affect nearly 10% of the US population, which is roughly about 30 million Americans. The book goes on to state that "although the larger medical community readily acknowledges the existence of celiac disease, many doctors still fail to diagnose it because they are not aware of how common this problem is, of the variety of symptoms that it can cause, or of the nearly endless number of combinations of symptoms that can be present or absent in any one person" (pg. 22).
