Thank you very much for your time in helping me with this!

The 555 approach looks like the best solution. Cheap and simple, and there is space for it.

I have to order one though.

I will post back when I have tried it out.

(I have put a 1k ohm resistor in series with the negative copper handle. Haven't had the time to solder it in yet. Definetly a better zapping experience. I can feel a little tingle turning it on. Going from 30kHz to 2.5kHz isn't noticeable any longer.)
