I don't cough it up though. It feels like it's kind of behind my uvula, stuck in the back of my throat. I suspect that it sits there for quite some time before it "dislodges" itself. I can't think of the right way to explain it, so I just used the word "cough" loosely. I definitely don't cough it up from my lungs or anything. I sort of pull it out from the back of my throat by a kind of gagging mechanism, if you will. There's no noise, coughing or hacking of any kind to get it up. It almost brings itself up on its own. That's why I'm sure it's not mucous. Sorry to dispute your helpful message, but I'm positive that it's not mucous at all. Thanks anyway for responding. I appreciate the help.
