Spirituality Must be Homegrown to be Effective

African spirituality has failed to address the main issue confronting Africans worldwide. I see it here it in the Caribbean where I live. I read it on forums where African people post. The underlying theme is one of being ashamed of being African, wanting to distance themselves from being African, wanting to assimilated other people's religion and ideologies uncritically, and to prove that they are not African per se, but are actually of mixed origin, casting guilt on Africans, while exonerating whites. Most people of African origin have no interest in African history, and resist any attempt at introducing it into the educational system. It seems as though there is a consensus among African people to disappear, to be assimilated by others. As soon as most black people make money they behave as though the hallmark of achievement is to breed out the African in their offspring by choosing a spouse of a different race. Africans are the only major racial group that colonial powers have gotten to change their religion. In doing so they have rejected themselves, and absorbed the values and prejudices of those who conquered and decimated them, and have gained an abundance of self hate. That is the real holocaust, and can only fuel death. African people seem to be very naive. Eurocentric thinking has cast their genocides as holy. As a child watching "little house on the prairie", the white settlers were my heroes and the Indians were the villains, but I grew up! Yet many accept as holy scriptures today, the version that God gave a land that was occupied and owned by a set of people to another group of people with a licence to kill and to carry out some of the most atrocious deeds on record, and of course God conveyed this message to those who were to gain from this genocide. The other races have let their own Gods evolve as their consciousness evolved. How many churches preach ‘blessed is he who dashes their children's head against a stone', although the bible prescribed that for the enemies of 'the chosen people'. Of course none! I have yet to see any white guilt about anything! Similarly African could have evolved her animist religion to a more modern and moral paradigm, but instead swallowed the Christian religion and Islam, lock , stock, and barrel and the guilt and self hatred that are part and parcel of the whole deal .It seems almost inevitable that the death of African culture must follow as well as the disappearance of the African as a race from the face of the earth in generations to come. The process of extinction is already in progress. Africa is the least populous continent on the planet and people are dying in vast numbers from sectarian violence, which fuels other major killers like starvation, disease, despair. It stifles development of the people, and leave them open to exploitation as a source of cheap labour for the Chinese, Asians, Europeans, who are controlling more and more of the resources of African, while Africans wallow in Christian and Muslim fundamentalism, seeing themselves as Christian or Muslim but not as Africans. They also practice a form of Animism behind the scene that does not serve their spiritual advancement, or result in sufficient real social benefits.
