Re: Newbie question on garlic gardening

Hi Watch, you can plant any of the galic cloves and they will grow well. Garlic likes a hot dry climate, and if you give your plants the conditions they like, you will have little problem with fungal disease. Garlic likes a light, fairly sandy soil, so do not grow it in the ground if you have a clay based soil, or a wet soil.

I find the best way to treat cloves before planting is to either ozonate them for five to ten minutes before planting, or soak them in 100ml of water with 20 drops of Iodine added to it. This kills fungal spores, as does the ozonating. Don't waste your vodka :)

Garlic is very easy to grow in pots as well, use terracotta pots rather than plastic pots, and let the soil dry out before watering, the trick with garlic is to provide very good drainage, if you sit the pots in saucers with water, or over water the plants, they will rot.

Good luck,

spud
