That's part of the debate. Advocates of the Marshall Protocol believe vitamin D (even sun exposure) causes your immune system to be suppressed. Most physicians believe the opposite. To make matters more confusing, there's no one protocol for treating Lymes since it exists in 3 forms: spirochete, w/cell walls & in cystic form. More info can be read at: http://www.ILADS.org
