Re: How to use Lugol's Iodine, please help

Lugols’ Iodine according to this forum is begun one drop at a time, building up to the same dosage equivalent in Iodoral (3 drops = 25 mg approx) until your basal body temperature approaches “normal” (98.6).

While some people take Lugol’s for long stretches of time at high doses, it is not recommended by others on this site. It does kick ass, killing parasites, viruses, moulds, bacteria as well as leeches heavy metals.

It should be taken before starting TOA free Samento to reduce the Herxheimer reaction (also known as Jarisch-Herxheimer or Herx) that occurs when large quantities of toxins are released into the body as bacteria (typically Spirochetal bacteria) die during Antibiotic treatment.

As far as your mentioned symptoms, six months is a long time to not be seeing any improvement…

You didn’t say whether you are hyper or hypo thyroid.

If hypo -- are you taking a synthetic thyroid hormone (like Sythroid) or an animal-derived “bio-identical” thyroid (like Armour or Erfa)?

If hypo and taking synthetic hormone find a doctor that will switch you to Armour (US manufacturer) or Erfa (Canadian manufacturer).

Note: the Armour formulary recently changed and many people are upset by this. Erfa (made in Canada is made using the original unchanged formulary).

Sythroid only has T4. Theoretically your cells should be able to covert T3 out of that. T4 stores in your body and T3 is used up as the day goes on. If you have a nodule your body may not be able to convert T4 to T3 effectively.

Also, Synthroid takes over your T4 production and the thyroid gets “lazy” and no longer produces it. It takes 8 years for the thyroid to “recover” / regenerate new tissue.

So, if you are feeling like &*%^ every day despite the fact you are taking Sythroid, then, you may not be getting enough T3 for YOUR needs (Blood tests are typically normal but patient still has no energy, aches, pains, constipation, low body temperature, etc.).

Bio-identical thyroid hormones are absorbed by the body. Again, a sympathetic doctor will switch you to a bio-identical thyroid hormone and also dose you to treat your symptoms not your blood test results (the litmus test seems to be a "near normal basal body temperature").

Many people notice an improvement in energy / pain level almost overnight when they switch from Synthroid to Armour/Erfa.

See http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/
for more on this.

Additional bio-identical thyroid support is available from “glandulars”, which are flash frozen, freeze dried thyroid.

I prefer Dr. Ron’s Thyroid, 30 mg bovine thyroid with 470 mg liver. It is additive free and I take 3 in the morning with my 30 mg Armour thyroid. (http://www.drrons.com).

I do this to compensate for the change in Armour’s formulary until I can get to my doctor for a scriipt to obtain Erfa.

Another thing that has helped me immensely is powdered kelp. You can find it on line as well as at Asian markets. It is possible to also get the kelp in sheets, cut with scissors, blend in the blender, and/or pulverize in a food processor.

I drink it with distilled water 1-2 teaspoons once / twice a day. It can also be masked with V-8, grapefruit, or orange juice. It helps to have one of those tiny hand mixers from some place like the Vitamin Shoppe so that there are no clumps. It has no binders or fillers, so, it does have a tendency to clump. My position is that I don't care what it tastes like just as long as it seems to work -- and it does.

“Kelp is employed by herbalists as a mineral supplement. It is especially prized for its Iodine content, for which it is used to treat hypothyroidism and obesity.

“Kelp has also been used as a blood purifier and to treat atherosclerosis and rheumatism. It functions in these conditions by absorbing toxins from the bowel. It is especially effective at absorbing the metabolic products produced by yeasts.

“Kelp is most famous for its use in foods. In the Orient, it is used to flavor soups and sushi.

“The medicinal virtues of kelp are primarily related to its content of viscous fiber called algin. Algin is responsible for the use of kelp in the treatment of obesity, atherosclerosis and as a blood purifier. Algin absorbs most nutrients as well as toxins from the digestive tract in much the same way that a water softener removes the "hardness" from tap water. This results in less toxins entering the circulatory system. It also reduces caloric intake.

“Kelp contains mucilaginous compounds that enhance the detoxifying and eliminative functions of the digestive system. These compounds absorb toxins from the bowel and provide bulk to the stool. Kelp is an excellent herbal source of calcium, magnesium, sodium and iodine. Iodine is essential to normal thyroid function. It is used to increase the metabolic rate and strengthen connective tissues including the hair, skin and nails. Kelp has been used to treat hypothyroidism, enlarged glands, debility, fatigue, eczema, psoriasis, arthritis, and obesity.” (from Nutritional Herbology)

Kelp has a salty taste and is used by many people in place of salt.

It has a high content of natural plant iodine, which is absorbed much more slowly and therefore more safely, than chemical iodine. Iodine is necessary for proper function of the thyroid, which is essential for proper growth, energy, and metabolism.

Abounds in calcium, chlorine, potassium, magnesium, and other mineral including trace minerals.

Good for nails and hair loss.

Regulates the thyroid and pituitary glands (activates all glands of body).

Helps to regulate body temperature; aids in chronic low body temperature.

Good for pancreas and adrenals.

Helps male and females organs, good for prostate.

Builds cell membrane.

Aids function of digestive and endocrine systems.

Tests in Japan claim it is preventative of fetus abnormalities. Good during pregnancy because it normalizes glands and hormones and because of its high mineral content.

Helps to prevent growth of tumors.

Cleanse the body of radiation.

Acts as an antibiotic; assists the thyroid in releasing iodine into the blood stream when infection is present. Iodine fights infection.

Helps prevent disease.

Has been used in the following:
