Re: not absorbing iodine?
It sounds to me like your thyroid isn't functioning very well. That could be responsible for your palpitations. You don't sound like a Marfan's patient, because they are usually taller than 5'8". Even though you have myopia, a lot of people without Marfan's have myopia.
These symptoms do not sound extremely serious, but they are robbing you of feeling your best the way humans should feel. Your diet is not exactly ideal. You may be interested in the book, "The Primal Blueprint." It is great and provides information on a diet that promotes well being and strength.
If your thyroid is diseased no amount of
Iodine will help with your symptoms, and too much
Iodine can suppress the production of T3 and T4.
I suggest you see a physician and have lab work done to diagnose your thyroid issue, if that's the problem. You should ask for TSH, T3, T4, TPOAb (thyroid antibody test).
I would ask about the sweat thing, too. There may be other conditions responsible for that. You can also have your
Iodine levels checked by having an iodine loading test performed.
You should not consume the other halogens that prohibit the absorption of Iodine. Chlorine, Bromide (Bromine), or Fluoride. If you are drinking plain tap water you may be consuming fluoride, and chlorine. Bromine is a dough/bread conditioner that is used here in the states, but I am not sure if it is a common additive in breads in Ireland. You should research that. Also restaurants you may visit that use untreated tap water contribute to ingestion.
Also, Ireland is a tough place to get your dose of Vitamin D from the sun. You need ample Vitamin D to absorb many different nutrients. Check out this web site to see what you need daily :

Good luck, I hope you achieve ultimate wellness!!!
