There are so many self anointed spiritual gurus waking around and as part of the hook they say they don't want to be but some how are. ;-)

We see this in with many Yogis and we also see it in the new age cults as well. The entire channeling circus underway with frauds like Ramtha. A stage act picking up on common themes, regurgitating them, and reaping benefits in various forms.

It is quite easy to see through when one is honest with them self and doesn't get hooked into things outside them self.

That theme is used by religions across the board.

So then yes, when we need something or someone outside our self to say it is okay to be our self, it's time to do a coherency check on our mental processes. In osho's case, this theme worked to his own meglomaniac advantage, especially as a charismatic sex predator (a theme we are finding out more and more was/is common amongst his ilk).
