Yes, the tongue does possess flora. It also possesses mucous and IgA cells, salivary proteins, lactoferrin, mucins, defensins, secretory components, transferrin, histatins, lysozymes, etc. Some research indicates that fungal candida binds to some of the salivary proteins and this is what makes it difficult to eliminate in the oral cavity - http://iai.asm.org/cgi/content/full/69/6/3883?view=long&pmid=11349055.
