I'm in Tacoma.  I'll put the field trip in the back of my mind.

As you know it is nice and damp up here.  Had a friend who is married to a Japanese lady and he would often go mushroom picking somewhere in the area looking for shiitakes.  There are other mushroom pickers in the region too, but shiitakes are a Japanese favorite.  He also fished for squid during the winter months from a pier here in Tacoma - as do many Asians even though he's as Western as I am.  It's a night time endeavor and you shine a light onto the water and the squid come in looking for spawning grounds, attracted by the light.  I never got many, but I do love 'em and just about anything else that comes out of saltwater up here - that's why I have no problem with the taste of iodine.  The guy is obviously very well trained.
