I just watched it two nights ago. In the movie they actually say they've cured three type 1 diabetics.

They actually thought Kirt Tyson was a type 2. It wasn't until 60 days after he went home the doctors went over his labwork (I think his hometown doctor) and found out that he actually had been type 1. When he was first diagnosed, he went to the dr with a 1200 Sugar level. They said he should have been dead. He looked normal too, not obviously overweight or anything.

There was a diagnosed type 1 there, but he wasn't terribly dedicated to the diet. He did reduce his insulin from 70 units a day to 5 by the end, though. Pretty significant!

I'm a type 2 and over the last few days have reduced my Lantus (24 hour insulin) from 49 to 29, and my short-acting from 40 to nothing or about 10, depending. I'm very excited about getting off it entirely!

(And lest I be taken to task for reducing my insulin myself, my endocrinologist is quite supportive of self-management. I've been doing it for over a year with her approval, including during pregnancy, so I know what I'm doing.) Tweet
