Friends who are National Rifle Association trainers, who taught me responsible use of a handgun, say that the idea of restriction of weapons was more palatable prior to the decline of our economy. Now we have god/goddess knows what coming down the pike, and unfortunately the fear factor is prompting more interest in acquiring weaponry. I think those who thought gun control was the answer a decade ago are now feeling the opposite about it since we may soon have to defend our food.
