Spud, We the People have a Constitution, Declaration of Indepence and Bill of Rights. Not only did the founding colonists needed guns to protect themselves from criminals and yes the indians, but to preserve their liberty from the King and his soldiers who were a bigger threat to them. I could go on, but I suggest to you, if you can go on line, Barnes and Noble or any other book store and order a book called The Founders Second Ammendment:Origins of the Right to Bear Arms by Stephen P. Halbrook. You might gain an insight into the why of our need and passion for guns.
