Re: severe insomnia to sleeping a lot again???
Hi, I went back and read a couple of your posts to see if you were female, because I am and I have had success from very long term terrible insomnia and back to sleeping again.
I made some mistakes that contributed to the insomnia, and I also had some natural hormonal imbalances that contributed.
I was taking bioidentical hormones at high levels. And yes too much progesterone can have really bad side effects. Progesterone accumlates in the fat cells. I was also taking too much estrogen. I was on something called the Wiley protocol. In theory it sounds good, but it has been disastrous for many people.
I also consumed a lot of
Aspartame becase I drank diet coke.
I ended up very sick, my nerves were shot.I was dangerously sleep deprived.
What I did to recover:
I rested almost totally for weeks. I lowered the hormones down to just 2 mgs of bio identical estrogen. I am still working on that. No progesterone at this point, I can't handle it. I assume it is still in my fat cells.
I quit all aspartame.
After much rest, sleep started to come back, but at first I would wake achey and panicky when I woke up, that is subsiding now and I am getting restorative sleep. I often before this would not sleep hardly at all and I think that caused a near breakdown. I do take and have for years a medication for anxiety, but it had little to do with all of this as it stayed the same.
I also began a low fat vegan diet. I had angina before this and have studied Caldwell Esselstyn and other's work and this has made the angina go away and made me feel better in general. I eat a plant based diet, with some grains and potatoes, mostly brown rice and oats for grains,
juicing and using the pulp to make raw bars that I add a few things to and put in my dehydrator for home made raw treats I enjoy. There are good recipes here:

I also read here on curezone about a condition called Pyroluria. People who have anxiety may want to look into this. I recognized myself in the symptoms. My anxiety became most obvious when I was around 12. We moved to a different state. I became sick, felt terrible and threw up every morning. Finally my mother recognized that it was nerves and sent me to school anyway. I would feel better as the day went on and recovered from this shortly thereafter. Anxiety manifested at various times throughout my younger life and I began an anti anxiety drug at about 30 years old. It has helped a lot. I was able to attend college and chiropractic school and really enjoy it and then have had 2 successful practices after that.
Pyroluria is a problem that leads to deficiency in zinc and vitamin B6 and often a few other nutrients. I find strong vitamins too stimulating, but I ordered and take a children's vitamin by Metabolic Maintenance called Little Ones. And a sublingual tablet of B6,B12, and folic acid, and also a tablet of zinc. I will only take the zinc for a short while as there is enough in the children's vitamin after the deficiency is taken care of.
I am also planning on using my
Far Infrared Sauna ,sunbathing, exercising and taking heavy metal chelators--Livon labs nano sphere vitamin C, serrapeptase and others. Some of these things are for heart disease and inflammation, you may not need them.
But, what got my sleep back was rest, cutting way back on hormones and stopping aspartame.
I also found that the complex carbs on the vegan diet would make me sleepy.
It took a crisis for me to do some of the things I did. I would not have laid around for weeks if I didn't have to, but I just got that sick. I do think it was necessary in my case though. I was on overdrive, and nothing else would have stopped it.
I hope some of this helps! I am so happy to be able to sleep again and feel so much better. My blood pressure has gone way down as well.
