How do you think all that nastiness ended up in the bible?

They are historical documents that pre-civilized people agreed could be called an approximation of 'the truth' but even as the evolution of a being called God becoming a God who could roughly(with several exceptions) be called love in the New Testament, Revelations drags out the double minded doppelganger God.

Also why do you think so many people accept it as the word of "god."

I believe there is enough 'God=love' in the texts to provide hearers and readers spiritually trans-formative experiences as opposed to going to see a movi, theater production, old timer's yarns or reading a secular book.
